Part 1: Self-Advocacy in Traditional Agencies: Understanding the Role of a Certified Peer Specialist

- Clarifying the role and scope of practice in various agency settings
- Differentiating the CPS role from clinical or administrative staff
Overview: Strategies for advocating for yourself in agency settings, overcoming hierarchical barriers, and establishing professional boundaries
Key Skills: Assertiveness, professional communication, navigating workplace politics, and leveraging organizational structures
Part 2: Peer Specialist Self-Care: Emotional Boundaries and Self-Preservation

- Understanding emotional boundaries in peer support
- Balancing empathy with self-care
- Strategies for avoiding burnout

Shamona Kirkland is a New York Certified Peer Specialist -Provisional and Program Coordinator for the Careers in Recovery and Wellness Training Center at the Association for Mental Health and Wellness.
