Virtual Training: Breaking the Cycle: Culturally Responsive Support for Marginalized Families
October 22, 2024 at 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM EST
In “Breaking the Cycle: Supporting Marginalized Families with Culturally Relevant Care,” we will explore the complexities of resilience, especially within historically marginalized families, and challenge the dominant narrative that glorifies resilience without addressing the systemic barriers that necessitate it. Participants will learn how resilience, while often celebrated, can mask the emotional and physical toll faced by Black women and other marginalized communities who are continually expected to “push through” adversity. This session will focus on building networks of culturally relevant support that honor family strengths, cultural practices, and community assets rather than pathologizing them.
Through case studies, interactive discussions, and practical strategies, peer workers and service providers will be equipped to shift from a deficit-based approach to one that centers empathy, rest, and empowerment. By prioritizing culturally responsive care and addressing structural barriers, participants will gain the tools to foster environments where resilience is not the only option. Join us as we reimagine care and support for marginalized families, emphasizing dignity, healing, and thriving beyond mere survival.
